Max

Daymon has a beloved stuffed dog named Max. Max has been carried to countless places, usually with one of his ears in Daymon's mouth. He's tattered, holy, beaten up and very much loved.

When we traveled to Africa in March as a family, I suggested he bring Max along so he wouldn't miss home so much. Great idea if your mom doesn't leave him in the backpack he's being carried in on the luggage belt in Paris. By the time I realized it was missing we were on the tarmac and headed onto the plane. The flight attendants assured us that we could just pick them up from lost and found on our way back. Sounds easy enough.

We had no idea the hell we would encounter to regain custody of two, itty bitty, unassuming backpacks. The backpacks would quickly become the bane of our existence. When we arrived back in Paris we made our way to lost and found only to discover they opened at nine. Our plane was to leave at seven. Great. We tried to speak to every single employee of the stupid airport and oddly, no one seemed to care that my little boy was greatly missing his Max. We begged, we pleaded, we bargained and yet we were told only one person could open that office and he was not there. Really? Only one person? Okay.

So after three hours we were forced to board our plane without Max. Now we have a very sad little boy and two parents determined to get Max back. When we returned we contacted the Paris airport and again, no one could help us. We eventually found someone going to Paris and he agreed to pick up the backpacks! We were thrilled! But. . . when he returned he said he was tired and just forgot.

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

There were letters back and forth with the airport. We received these letters in French, so that was fun figuring out what they meant. Finally we were told that if they were not picked up they would be destroyed. Sigh.

Through a lot of people talking to other people who knew people we found a family living in Paris who agreed to go pick them up and mail them to us! So after six months of waiting we have Max back!! Oh happy day. He's back in all of his tattered glory. The wonderful family took some pictures of Max in Paris before he made the journey home. So sweet of them.

Welcome back Max, we missed you.
