This story ends up in Middle Earth

One of the best parts of my day is driving my kids to school.

I feel like all is right with the world.  Because I really like doing the "mom stuff".  It's hard for me when I'm at work and we pay someone else to do the moms stuff, because, well, it's MY job.

But to be honest with you I've been feeling a little stressed lately when I drop Aliya off.  Because "she" is there.  The bright yellow vest, the stop sign, the oh so great position of power and she is not messing around.  You see, I've always thought I knew how to drive.  She has made it abundantly clear that that is not the case.

It's not that hard people.  You wait in line with all the other parents and slowly inch forward until it's time to let your child out and then you merge and wah-lah.  Done. After school?  Same thing in reverse.  Except apparently, I'm a complete idiot because I somehow do it wrong every time.

The first time she scolded me was when I was the first person in line and Aliya was nowhere in sight.  So I waited.  The cars behind me would just go around when they had their kid.  This is how it is done.  But she just kept waiving me forward.  Over and over.  But, um, I don't have my kid, so. . .I tried to convey this via hand signals.  Yet she still kept waiving me forward.  What exactly she was hoping to accomplish by having me leave without my daughter is beyond me.

The second time I was reprimanded was because I was late and I was told under no uncertain terms that I must park and walk inside and sign her out.  So the next day when I was late {the boys go to a different school and it gets out at the same time} I was headed to a parking space when I saw Aliya, so I deviated from my plan and was waiting for her to come into the parking lot.  The "Cross Walk Nazi" did not like this and kept waiving me forward to exit.  Again, I do not have my child.  So, again, via appropriate hand signals I tried to convey this to her.  Finally I gave up, drove the ten feet and stopped at the curb to let Aliya in.  Crazy Cross Walk Nazi came running up to my window and started pounding on it.  I rolled it down and she is screaming at me that I can't do what I just did.  So I tried to explain that she kept waiving me forward so did she or did she not want me to pull forward?  For the love of all that is decent, I just want to pick up my daughter and leave without having a panic attack.  Becauseohmygoshthecrazyladyisoutofcontrol!!

Somehow I manage to drop off and pick up my boys without a hitch.  No one yells at me, in fact, they wish me a good day as they open the door to let the boys out.  They smile, they wave {in a non-life threatening way} and they are kind.  I think Cross Walk Nazi's neon vest has gone to her head.  I mean that kind of power is clearly intoxicating.  I like to think of it as her "Ring" yet she's not on the path to Mordor.  Although she does have a gollum vibe going on.

And that stupid flashy vest is her precious.

Well this hobbit will eventually snap. Because I am not pleased about my "happy kid time" turning into "stressful Crazy Cross Walk Nazi time" and I'm also not happy about being short enough to be a Hobbit in this scenario.

How did I end up here?

Date with dad

Hubby took Aliya on a date.

They went out to eat and she ordered just as any little girl from my DNA should.  Nachos.

They went to the Tempe town lake and ran around in circles and laughed and danced.

They made a heart box at As You Wish where he wrote "your name will always be written on the inside of my heart".

He taught her what a Chinese fire drill is at a busy intersection.

And a total stranger could see how much fun they were having and asked if she could take their picture.

I love that guy.

perspective

The day after our house was broken into, I was driving the kids to school when Dylan said "ya know mom, I'm not really that upset about my game systems being gone.  Now I'll have to be more active and at least they didn't take my shovel.

I adore that kid.

To the person(s) who robbed our house yesterday

Was it worth it?  Do you feel proud of your self for breaking in in broad daylight after Hubby left, to ransack our house?  What a mighty big man you must be to steal from kids.  Kids who worked hard for the gaming systems you took.  Kids who are now afraid you'll come back.  You're obviously retarded.  Gee, I wonder how you'll work the wii without all the pieces or the work the Xbox 360 without the controllers .  Of course I realize I'm giving you too much credit.  You probably ran to the nearest pawn shop to ensure you could get your next dose of meth.  I can't help but laugh when I think about you trying to sell my lap top though.  How much did you get for that?  Did they even humor you or did they just hand it back and politely tell you what a huge piece of crap it was?  Hubby's was the one you wanted.

I appreciate the feeling of being completely violated.  As if I wasn't already nervous about this ghetto you call Tempe.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your nether regions.

Have fun being a loser.

Sincerely,
One very pissed off mom

Aaaaaahhhhhhh

I've been without a fire place for 8 years.  I'd almost forgotten just how amazing they are.  Almost.

If you give a boy a shovel. . .

He will dig a hole.

This post is a little whiny. And also pathetic.

Yeah.  When I decided to bless the world with my spawn, I didn't think about the details like homework.  Actually I didn't really picture them ever being full blown kids who go to school and play sports and have opinions about silly bandz.  I mostly pictured cherub babies and sweet smelling spit up, because we all know that it's not really throw up until they're like two.

However, I do have full blown kids and they do attend the sacred assembly we call school and darn it if it hasn't been kicking my butt.  I know, I know, they need to be responsible.  They also need to stop arguing over who gets the last pizza roll, but I don't see an end to that any time soon.
My boys have been kind of slacking in the homework department lately.  Well, more like "for the love of all that is decent and good, if you 'forget' you have homework one more time I'll lose my ever lovin' mind!"  And then their eyes glaze over.

I know it's a new school and it's harder, but come on.  So I've implemented the "No child leaves the house without homework" law.  Oh and if you can't seem to "remember" to do it, then I can't seem to "remember" where I put the Xbox 360.  I'm kind of forgetful that way.
Just call me "Hitler Mama" from now on.  Only you don't have to do the salute.  But you totally can if you want to.

I've raised the bar when it comes to responsibility.  I'm thinking I don't really want boys who turn into men who can't do their own laundry and only microwave hot pockets.  On special occasions.

I guess I sort of thought they would just naturally want to check things off their "to do" list and only watch TV when their green beans were finished after neatly putting homework into their backpacks.

Wow, I almost couldn't finish that last line through the tears of laughter.  It's good to add some humor to my day.  I find it cathartic.

Seems I'll have to do some extra training and nagging and possible hovering until this homework thing is fully under control.

Heil Mama.

Hubby: ten things I love about you

1.  You know the way to my heart.  Coffee and ice.  Two things I dearly love.  You give them freely and often.

2.  Your passion for Jesus inspires me and I will follow you anywhere.  Even to Tempe.

3.  The way you light up when you're teaching our kids something new.

4.  The way you drop everything to dance with me when Zac Brown is playing.

5.  Your sarcasm is truly an art form and is hysterical, even when I pretend it's not.

6.  Your ability to charm anyone.

7.  You're strong and not afraid to lead.

8.  You back me up in front of the kids.

9.  You make life outside our suburb the focus and take us around the world.

10.  You love me just the way I am.  And tell me everyday.

I big fat fluffy heart Halloween

The kids had a blast trick-or-treating.  Aliya looks way too old in her Miss Universe costume.  She's not allowed to wear make up. . . ever again.
Hope you all had a fun Halloween!

Look out behind you!  Aliya and her friend Hallie
